Question

On Windows 2000, "Unable to launch or to connect to the Diskeeper service. Possible causes are that another Diskeeper process is currently connected to this computer or Diskeeper is not installed correctly".

Answer

NOTE: The workaround listed below is designed for Windows 2000 only.

We believe we may have a solution for you on this. Check the following to determine if the Client for Microsoft Networks service is present and setup correctly:

1. Right click on My Network Places on your desktop and select Properties.
2. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. If you do not see the Local Area Connection icon, select the connection Icon that you are currently using to connect to the internet or your network.
3. Check for the Client for Microsoft Networks service in the General tab or the Connection tab.

If you find the Client for Microsoft Networks service is missing, restoring it should result in Diskeeper functioning. If you find it present, uninstall and reinstall the Client for Microsoft Networks service.

1. If the Client for Microsoft Networks service is present, select the Uninstall button and reboot the system when you are told to.
2. If not present or after you have removed the service, select the Install button.
3. Select Client within the Select Network Component Type window and select the Add button.
4. Select Client for Microsoft Networks and click OK.
5. After the Client for Microsoft Networks has been reinstalled, reboot the system.
6. You may have to manually start and set the Net Logon service within Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services to automatic.

This should handle the issue.
