Diskeeper Server 7.0 fails to remotely connect to systems that have Diskeeper pre-7.0 software installed.
Answer
The issue being encountered is related to a modification that was made to Diskeeper’s DCOM settings to allow Diskeeper to be controlled from a remote system through Terminal Services. If you wish to control a pre-7.0.4xx version from a post-7.0.4xx version and DO NOT need to run Diskeeper remotely using Terminal Services you can make the following alteration to support that configuration. This will disable Diskeeper’s ability to be run from a remote system through Terminal Services. On Windows NT 4.0 & Windows 2000: 1. Select the Start button and Run… 2. In the Open field of the Run window, type dcomcnfg and select OK 3. Highlight Diskeeper GUI in the Distributed COM Configuration Properties window 4. Click the Properties button 5. In the Identity tab of the Diskeeper GUI Properties window, change the radio button selection from the launching user to the interactive user. 6. Select Ok and exit from the dcomcnfg On Windows XP: 1. Select the Start button and Run… 2. In the Open field of the Run window, type dcomcnfg and select OK 3. In the Component Services window, double click Component Services in the right pane 4. Double click the Computers folder in the resulting right pane 5. Double click the My Computer icon in the resulting right pane 6. Double click the DCOM Config folder in the resulting right pane 7. Highlight the Diskeeper GUI icon in the resulting right pane 8. Right click and select Properties 9. In the Identity tab of the Diskeeper GUI Properties window, change the radio button selection from the launching user to the interactive user. 10. Select Ok and exit from the dcomcnfg This will allow Diskeeper Server post 7.0.4xx to connect to Diskeeper Server or Diskeeper Workstation pre-7.0.4xx .

10. Select Ok and exit from the dcomcnfg

This will allow Diskeeper Server post 7.0.4xx to connect to Diskeeper Server or Diskeeper Workstation pre-7.0.4xx .
